2014 has so far been an active and exciting time for the PGA.  With the announcement at the annual meeting of an historic deal with NBA and the Golf Channel each Section’s ADP funding will double in the next five years.  PGA Professionals will now receive tremendous exposure and promotion on Golf Channel and various networks of NBC.

It’s been just over 12 months since the PGA Annual Meeting of 2012.  At that meeting Ted Bishop become our 38th President, Derek Sprague moved up to the Vice President position, and our own Paul Levy  was elected as Secretary.  One of Ted’s first acts as President was to announce the PGA’s new executive team.  Pete Bevacqua was introduced as the new CEO, and Darrell Crall was promoted to the COO position.  Kerry Haigh also was given a new title, Chief Championships Officer, new responsibilities, and he became part of what is now a six person executive team heading our association.

As a PGA Board member I have the privilege to serve on the National Teaching Committee and act as the liaison for the committee to the Board.  Every PGA committee was asked by President Bishop to address key issues, do a conference call, and meet in Orlando prior to the Merchandise Show.  Then each committee was asked to present before the Board at our Planning Session in February.  Strategic plans and wish lists were talked about and evaluated, with each committee being given marching orders going forward.  For your information and potential feedback I would like to outline what the Teaching Committee feels is important for the association.

As I am sure you have seen the USGA and the R&A have proposed a rules change banning Anchoring of a putter against the body.  There will be a 90 day comment period during which anyone may provide information that if not realized already might impact their decision.  Otherwise this is set to go into effect January 1, 2016.
