Click here to download 2012 Inland Empire Apprentice Orientation schedule February 8, 2012 – Apprentice Orientation at the Links at Summerly It came down to the last hole and a playoff for the 2nd consecutive year. Coming into the last hole it looked like this: Henry Liaw and Dan Hornig at -5, and Paul Dietsche at -4. Jerry Crowell finished in the group ahead of them, going bogey-bogey, to finish at -3. Then the 18th hole at Goose Creek did what it does best…..create massive carnage. Dietsche made triple and both Liaw and Hornig made doubles! Crowell had new life as the playoff fell at -3. Hornig, Liaw, and Crowell went back to the 18th for the playoff. On the first playoff hole, Henry Liaw had troubles and bowed out with a double bogey. Hornig was safely on in 2 and Crowell was in a very very very bad position long over the green with no green to work with. Crowell hit a one of a kind flopper to 8 feet and made the putt for par. Hornig 2 putted so back to 18 again went Dan and Jerry. Jerry hit his tee shot in the water and Dan cooley hit a great metal wood to 10 feet for an easy two putt par 4, and victory. Dan’s firts place check of $3,400 set a new standard in the IE Chapter Championship. The Chapter members cannot say thanks enough to Goose Creek for their continued unbelievable efforts in putting on this event. The course was just so good it was scary, food both days from Sysco and Philly’s Best was top notch, drinks all over the course, and continued beverages in the clubhouse. Thanks to Rob Keller of the Section staff for not only playing, but setting up Blue Golf TV in the clubhouse and doing hole by hole scoring on the section website. See you all at Yucaipa for the Players Championship next month! The IE Cup at Victoria Club follows in October, so the race is on to make the team. Can we beat the amateurs this year please?? The Inland Empire Chapter celebrated our annual Special Awards dinner on Saturday, November 13 at the beautiful Vellano Country Club. Honorary Chapter President, Scott Wilson, was host to our second annual Special Awards Dinner. Section Vice-President and past President of the IE Chapter, Jeff Johnson, was the Master of Ceremonies for the evening along with President Ed Winiecki. The evening was wonderful as we ate dinner and raised our glasses in the exclusive wine cellar room at Vellano to celebrate all our 2010 award winners. The evening was eventful, with all the award winners giving special thanks and recounting stories of their great year! I want to extend a special thank you to Tom Addis for attending this special evening. I would like to also thank Scott Wilson for making this evening happen and all the staff at Vellano for a wonderful event. I want to congratulate all the 2010 Inland Empire Chapter award winners and thank them for all they do for the game of golf and our chapter! Lastly, I would like to congratulate our Golf professional of the year, Kim Schilling! Long overdue and well deserved!! Ed Winiecki, PGA |
