Desert Chapter Assistant’s Championship Results

After two days of competition on a firm and fast Heritage Palms Golf Club, the 2015 Desert Chapter Assistants Championship came to a close. Fighting 25 to 35 mph wind gusts in the final round, scoring became a bit more of a grind for all of the competitors. After opening the tournament with a 2-over 74 in more benign conditions, Chris Eikenberg, PGA of Desert Horizons Country Club battled the conditions in round 2 posting a 1-over par 73 for the low round of the day and to climb out of a 4 shot deficit to take home the trophy as he nipped first round leader Warren Pineo of Toscana Country Club by one shot. “Conditions were tough and I knew coming in that if I could shoot somewhere in the neighborhood of even par that I might have a shot at winning this thing.” Eikenberg stated. “After making a triple bogey on my sixth hole I knew it was going to be a grind, but after a birdie on nine and an eagle on ten, it kind of jump-started my round and got me back in the thick of things. It is fun to battle the elements and see what you have inside yourself.”

2nd Annual Tamarisk Pro-AM

The 2nd Annual Tamarisk Pro-Am was contested on Thursday April 30th at Tamarisk Country Club. With 26 teams comprised of 1 professional and 3 amateurs it was bound to be a fantastic event. The players were met with world class conditions and warm temperatures that eventually led to low scoring. Shane Ponchot, Director of Golf at The Hideaway lit up the course with a stellar 9-under par 63 to clip Kirby Pert of Callaway Golf by two. Following the round Ponchot stated “It was just one of those days where the bounces all went my way. Every shot I hit just seemed to end up close to the hole.” Seven other players managed to finish their rounds in red figures to find their way into the money. In the Pro-Am portion of the event the team of PGA Professional Dave Licalsi, amateurs Fred Beiersdorf, Terry Kelly, and Vickie Kelly finished with an outstanding team total of 122 to take home the team title.
